Special Instruction
The heart of Bright Milestones — skilled instructors, family coaching, and measurable participation in everyday life.

Special Instruction is an EIP service delivered by qualified personnel — often teachers with early childhood or students-with-disabilities preparation — who help children learn through play, routines, and relationships. In New York, it is authorized on the IFSP and provided in the natural environment: home, daycare, or community.
What sessions look like
A typical visit is not a miniature classroom. The instructor joins what the family is already doing. If it is snack time, we work on requesting, sitting, and using utensils. If it is play on the floor, we build joint attention, problem solving, and turn-taking. Caregivers are partners, not spectators. The most powerful minutes are the ones you can repeat after we leave.
Skills we target
- Cognitive development: cause and effect, imitation, early problem solving, attention
- Adaptive skills: participating in dressing, feeding, and daily routines
- Social-emotional development: bonding, regulation, engagement with caregivers and peers
- Play: expanding from sensory play to functional and pretend play
- Foundations for communication and school readiness, coordinated with the rest of the IFSP team
Why families see progress
The first three years are a period of extraordinary brain plasticity. High-quality, family-centered early childhood special education — delivered with enough consistency to matter — is associated with stronger developmental trajectories, greater independence, and smoother transitions into preschool. Success is not a slogan. It looks like a child who can join a routine that used to fall apart, a parent who knows what to try next, and an IFSP outcome that starts to come true.
Bright Milestones adds modern infrastructure: 24/7 schedules, real-time updates, and an instructor who is backed by easy documentation and communication tools. Sample parent portal sessions with Emily B. run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
